When the new Queen Elizabeth II statue was unveiled, I initially suspected it to be an AI-generated fabrication. (So I guess the good news about AI fake pictures is that it might finally provoke some of the skepticism Gen X-ers are meant to have but don’t.)
One feature I didn’t notice until the big reveal was two bronze corgis positioned around the base. This addition seems to have had a rather magical response on social media responses.
QE2 has, at best, a mixed effect on audiences — as an individual and a symbol of the monarchy. But it seems that it is almost impossible for anyone to hate on a statue that includes two corgis.
An association with dogs, especially notoriously cute corgis, is just a panacea any symbol of oppression really needs. With the bonus of making the memorial less prone to vandalism and redirecting grabby hands away from Her Majesty’s image.
Taking a leaf out of the same playbook, a police force in Shandong, China, added a corgi as a new recruit. I am sure it was purely for operational reasons. Again, the public response was notably devoid of skepticism. Because: corgi.
I have to say, that police corgi better have a blessed life - because that PR boost will dive right into a midden if anything unfortunate ever happens to Fu Zai. (Perhaps they have a small kennel full of look-alikes stashed away).
All around the world, PR agencies are taking note, and I am taking bets on which celebrity with a messy past or litigious future will appear on our news feed next, fully equipped with a furry hate shield. Because almost nobody hates a corgi, and it seems to be catching on.
Just so you know there's 3 corgis in the statue , one is sitting at her feet in front of her
